One Middleweight Title Match: Vitaly Bigdash vs. Aung La Nsang 5R. Aung lost a 5 round decision to Bigdash on 1/14/17, but that was on 10 days notice & without the hometown crowd behind him (which probably helped induce Yuji Shimada to call for quick standups). Bigdash came out throwing powerful & flashy kicks, but wasn't able to rely on his standup skills despite Aung being a fighter that normally wins via submission, so the match soon wound up resembling an old school grappler vs. striker match as Aung dropped Bigdash 2 minutes in with an overhand right & a couple clubbing strikes - essentially standing hammerfists to his stunned opponent - & landed several big punches & a huge elbow on the ground. This put Bigdash into full on grappling mode when he finally got some offense, which wasn't until the 2nd round, when he nearly had a trip into a rear naked choke at the outset, but Aung turned to the top before he could quite secure things. Frankly, it was pretty amazing he survived that long as Aung had an impressive onslaught, but punched himself out before he could seal the deal. Bigdash again tripped Aung up midway through the 2nd & almost had a rear naked choke, but Aung was able to turn to his back right after Bigdash flattened him out, & Shimada rather quickly bored of seeing Aung get pounded on against the cage. Bigdash dominated the 3rd with his wrestling, cutting Aung above the left eye with his ground & pound, and you were wondering if it was going to be a repeat of their 1st match where his grappling was just too strong in the later rounds, but with a full camp this time, Aung was able to pick Bigdash apart with his boxing in the 4th. Bigdash looked really bad in this round, as he was just covering up, and again you felt if Aung had a little more stamina he could have finished this because he kept landing around the block, but he'd disengage after 1 or 2 shots, which was much too quickly considering Bigdash never threw a counter punch or ducked into a takedown attempt. The problem with this fight was both guys were spent in the championship rounds, which was somewhat understandable given how much punishment Bigdash took early & how hard Aung pressed in the initial stages to get him out. The 5th round was basically a worse version of the 4th, with Aung throwing an unanswered shot or two then stopping. Bigdash did offer more offensively, getting 2 takedowns & digging deep in the last minute to try to do enough to steal the fight (or at least keep Shimada from standing them up yet again). Aung won a unanimous decision. Good match.
