He has to be restrained by the ref when he quickly gets a knockdown against the robes (granted the ropes hold Ramponi up so it's not obvious that a knockdown is being scored).

Super Middleweight Title Match: Diego Gaucho vs. Rodolfo Cavalo 5R. Really hard fought, high paced title fight. Gaucho wanted to capitalize on his length using his kicks & knees, but Cavalo applied massive forward pressure, backing Gaucho into the ropes with his heavy punches & continuing to work him over there, cutting him under the left eye. Gaucho finally landed a nice right hook counter & followed with 3 big knees in the final minute of the 1st, but he was just having a really hard time slowing Cavalo down or keeping him off him. Gaucho showed better footwork in the 2nd, cutting the corners so he was usually backing into open space rather than the ropes, and could thus use front kicks to keep Cavalo at bay. Cavalo was supposed to slow down so Gaucho could begin to take over, but instead Gaucho quickly tired from all his backing, and Cavalo was working him over on the ropes again, and doing more damage to the eye. Gaucho's defense was a little better in the 3rd & he had his moments with knees late, but it was another round where he was simply outworked. Gaucho came out firing in the 4th, but the fight changing knee to the back of the head he caught Cavalo with against the ropes after ducking an overhand right was blatantly illegal given he threw it with Cavalo's chest on the ropes. The gutless ref didn't take a point, so Gaucho also got a much needed rest, and was able to come out firing on the restar, landing some more knees & wobbling Cavalo with a left hook late. With Gaucho mounting a strong burst at the start as well as after the foul, this was the first Gaucho round he won, so on my scorecard he needed at least a knockdown in the 5th. Gaucho managed just that with a series of hooks a minute into the 5th. Cavalo beat the count, but was already exhausted from all the rounds of pressuring, and was basically a sitting duck, still punching but mostly standing against the ropes. Gaucho's knees to the midsection weren't helping Cavalo's cause any, but Cavalo managed to stay on his feet. Nonetheless, with the 10-8 final round for Gaucho, he retained the title via draw. To some extent, this was an amazing comeback, though if the ref takes a point for the foul, Cavalo walks away with the title, and if not for the foul, Cavalo might have won the 4th because it's doubtful Gaucho would have somewhere found the energy to make the 2nd push. Good match.

WGP Light Middleweight Title: Bruno Gazani vs. Marcelo Dionisio 5R. I can't believe this fight went the distance, as Gazani just threw an obscene amount of strikes, and while his output would please any volume puncher, he is pretty strong & had good pop on them as well. Gazani's advantage was boxing, while Dionisio's was kicking, but Gazani was so aggressive with his boxing that he took Dionisio's space away & didn't allow him to get his offense going. Gazani had Dionisio down midway through the first with non stop punch combos. He was able to mix some knees in effectively, finishing with knees to the midsection when Dionisio's only answer to his latest punching barrage was to cover up, which led to the second knockdown 20 seconds later. You knew Gazani couldn't keep this pace up for 5 rounds, but with Dionisio literally out on his feet for the last minute of the 1st, it didn't seem like he had to worry about that. Dionisio may have lost this fight, but to not only survive, but at least be competitive in the remaining rounds was quite impressive. Gazani did slow down considerably in the second round, but he didn't gas himself, he simply stopped to take some breaths. Though Gazani still won the round, for the rest of the fight, Dionisio was at least able to insert his offense when Gazani stopped throwing. Dionisio was now able to extend the distance with a front kick or close it with a step knee, though he wasn't consistent enough with either, or really any particular tactic even though it was pretty obvious what Gazani was going to do. Dionisioi probably won the 3rd, but Gazani came back with a huge barrage against the ropes early in the 4th. Dionisio was able to weather it, and land a few good kicks, including a side kick that knocked Gazani off his feet (not a knockdown), but it was still a Gazani round. Dionisio had his moments with the middle kick, but they were just too few & far between, and Gazani was always able to come back with another flurry once he took a few seconds off. Gazani won a unanimous decision. Very good match.

Leo Corrales vs. Lucas Arce 3R UD. Really fun fight between two super fast, flashy combatants. Undefeated Corrales is definitely the better technician of the two, able to consistently throw 3 or 4 strike combinations. He threw some nifty spinning strikes as well, landing the back kick a few times and at least grazing with a hook kick. Arce applied a lot of pressure, coming forward with the left low kick, but had trouble opening up his boxing or combos, his attempts were mostly on Corrales' gloves & then Corrales landed back. At the end of the 1st, Arce backed Corrales into the corner, but Corrales timed his low kick & dropped him with a right hook. One of the strong points of the match is they were able to maintain their pace throughout. Two low blows in a row didn't even slow Corrales down. Arce's determination to come forward was keeping him in the fight, though Corrales did a nice job of countering Arce's single shots with combinations. Corrales probably won every round, but Arce kept making Corrales work & better him. Good match.
