9/19:
On 10/28, Atsushi Onita will wrestle his first match for All Japan in since 1984. Onita's opponent isn't decided since it depends on how the title tournament goes, but they seem to be hinting that it'll be Masa Fuchi. |
9/18:
The latest on the Koshinaka angle is that instead of just cooperating with Masa Fuchi against Masahiro Chono one time, Fuchi has asked Koshinaka to rejoin All Japan. The basis of Fuchi's argument is that, for the obvious reasons, All Japan needs him more than New Japan. Koshinaka is still saying that he's just helping all Japan out for one match. |
9/9:
All Japan is looking for native men to enlist. They require 180 cm and at least 18 years old (although later they mention parental consent for minors) and ask applicants to send a personal history with height and weight written clearly, a topless photograph, a certificate from a doctor that says you are in good health (physical). |
9/8:
Toshiaki Kawada is demanding New Japan sets aside section(s) of seats for All Japan fans in the Tokyo Dome since they will be in "enemy territory," and that could be "dangerous." Kawada swore to get drunk on good wine after beating Kensuke Sasaki. Sasaki is also very confident that he'll win, so Kawada said if Sasaki is so confident, he should put the IWGP title up for grabs. |
9/5:
Shiro Koshinaka met with Motoko Baba about working some matches in All Japan. Koshinaka started out in All Japan and has been one of the key players in getting the sides to work together, so it's pretty much a given that he'll wrestle again there sooner or later. The angle seems to be that Koshinaka feels some allegiance to All Japan since he wrestled there for his first six years and the late Giant Baba was his teacher. He doesn't want to jump back or anything, but he realizes they are hurting and feels he can help them. Choshu might not want him to wrestle there (it depends what New Japan gets in return) though. Koshinaka might be able to wrestle in All Japan without Choshu's consent, but his position as staff officer might be in jeopardy if it seems like his allegiance isn't totally to New Japan. Koshinaka burned incense for Giant Baba for an hour before meeting with Motoko and also recieved medical treatment for his bad neck at some point in the day. |
9/3:
Toshiaki Kawada is going to attend the 9/16 New Japan show at Nagoya Aichi-ken Taiikukan to evaluate his possibilities. Kawada has only seen New Japan on TV, so he wants to see what their shows are like and such before he decides if wrestling there would be a good idea and which guys he'd like to wrestle. There will probably wind up being a shouting match or something like that to set up his program. |
9/2:
9/2 Tokyo Nippon
Budokan 16,300 sellout Wolf Hawkfield, Giant Kimala, George Hines, & Scorpio will be back for the next tour. |
9/1:

Shi Rinkai Taiikukan 1,200 All Japan announced that for the first time since 1993, the winner of the Sekai Saikyo tag league will get the vacant Sekai Tag Senshuken. The league starts on 11/19. It looks like two of teams will be Fuchi & Fujiwara and Hansen & Williams. Hansen & Williams want to win the IWGP tag titles and then win this tournament so the All Japan and New Japan belts would be unified for the first time. |

8/20: Chono To Wrestle On All Japan Budokan Show
8/20 Tokyo Korakuen
Hall 2,100 sellout All Japan announced
the main matches for the 9/2 Tokyo Nippon Budokan show. The main event
is the bizarre pairing of Toshiaki Kawada & Steve Williams facing
the reformed tag team of Stan Hansen & Genichiru Tenryu. Hansen
& Tenryu held the Sekai Tag Senshuken three times in '89, vacating
the title before the Sekai Saikyo Tag League started, but then winning
the league to regain the straps. The big news, however, is that there
will be an AJ vs. NJ singles match with Masa Fuchi taking on Masahiro
Chono. A very good match...if it was booked 10 years ago. I give Fuchi,
who to get heat Chono called a 3rd class wrestler, about a .05% chance
of winning this match, but since he's fighting Chono the show should
sell out. |
8/17:
Atsushi Onita isn't going to retire (surprise, surprise) because he still has to dreams to make come true, returning to All Japan and bringing his style death match to America. He's made little progress on the later so far, but he's going to show up at the 8/26 All Japan show at Tokyo Korakuen Hall. Although he's not wrestling on the show, one would expect him to make one of his typical grandstand challenges (should be to Kawada, since he's the one that declared "Jado refusal") that should eventually lead to a DUD in All Japan. |
8/14:
A decision match for the Sankan Heavykyu Senshuken that was vacated when Kenta Kobashi left for NOAH will be the main event of the 28th anniversary show on 10/28 at Tokyo Nippon Budokan. The idea is to have a league or tournament involving All Japan wrestlers and whatever stars from other promotions are willing to compete. Atsushi Onita may be involved, and supposedly NOAH wrestlers are being invited, but everyone knows they won't accept. This league would start on 10/14 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall. Kawada's "dream" is to win the 3 titles here and then have a unification match with Kensuke Sasaki to create the ultimate title. |
8/11: Choshu & Fuchi Shake On AJ/NJ Talent Exchange
Masa Fuchi shook hands with Riki Choshu in the ring at the 8/11 New Japan show, as it was announced that All Japan and New Japan would have interpromotional matches for the first time since April 1990..There was a huge shout of joy from the fans and even a Fuchi call. Not wanting to work with All Japan, Masahiro Chono and Hiroyoshi Tenzan broke up the party, with Choshu getting kicked. Interpromotional matches are expected to take place on the 8/20 All Japan show at Tokyo Korakuen Hall, 9/2 All Japan show at Tokyo Nippon Budokan, and 10/9 New Japan show at the Tokyo Dome. One would expect Chono and co to "try to get out of them," but eventually be "forced to" wrestle against All Japan as Kawada vs. Chono has big bucks written all over it. |
8/9:
Genichiru Tenryu, who will battle Toshiaki Kawada for the top spot in the promotion, demanded that he be named Sub-president of the league. It was expected that Kawada would be named President, but Motoko Baba named herself President instead, so Kawada is still Sub-president and now to "heat up" the leagues only program, they may be doing an angle where the steaks may be increased. If.they go through with such an angle, one would expect the first singles match between Tenryu & Kawada to be a battle for control of the company, much like the first Chigusa vs. Lioness match in 10 years was. That's absolutely not how All Japan operated under Giant Baba or even Misawa, but they are desperate now so anything is possible. |
7/31:
Everything has been
decided for the next tour except the card for the major show on 9/2
at Tokyo Nippon Budokan. The additions of Genichiru Tenryu really beefs
up the weak native side that previously had nothing but Toshiaki Kawada,
as now at least they can have one major match between them at some point
and several tag matches. Nobutaka Araya is an adequate addition, as
he's okay but has gotten worse, if anything, over the past few years.
He's on the same level as Shigeo Okumura, but Okumura has a lot more
potential. Jinsei Shinzaki, when motivated, is much better than either,
but the other two have "All Japan bodies," while Shinzaki
is somewhat undersized when he's not standing next to The Great Sasuke
& Gran Hamada. Yoshiaki Fujiwara, Mohammad Yone, and Ryuji Hijikata
are back for a few shows. The main matches
on the tour are: |
7/23:
7/23 Tokyo Nippon
Budokan 16,300 sellout |
7/21:
7/21 Okayama Kurashiki
Sanyo Haitsu Taiiku Muro 1,200 If Tenryu participates in all the shows on the next tour (he is), at least one of the championships will be decided on the 9/2 Tokyo Nippon Budokan show. |
7/20:
7/20 Fukuoka Hakata
Starlane 3,300 sellout |
7/19:
7/19 Yamaguchi Kaikyo
Messe Shimozeki 800 |
7/17:
7/17 Toyama Sangyo
Tenjikan Techno Hall 2,400 sellout |
7/15:
7/15 Ishikawa Nanao
Sogo Shimin Taiikukan 2,300 |
7/13: Kawada Claims Misawa & Co. Aren't Necessary
7/13 Aichi Item
Ehime 2,850 sellout Onita met Kawada after his death match and told him he intended to wrestle in All Japan. He's "causing problems" as usual because Motoko Baba wants him, Kawada doesn't, and now he's looking for the fans to let it be known that they want to see him in All Japan. I guess we should all call or email All Japan and tell them yes, in addition to the crappy undercards we've been getting for the last few years, now we want main events below ** instead of above ****. |
7/12:
7/12 Kochi-ken Min
Taiikukan 1,300 |
7/11:
7/11 Osaka Furitsu
Taiikukaikan 2,600 Toshiaki Kawada finally commented on the possibility of Atsushi Onita wrestling in All Japan rings, basically saying he wouldn't let Onita in because he won't raise his level of work to meet current All Japan standards. The problem is if this isn't an angle, which it probably both is and isn't, it's still Motoko Baba's decision whether to use Onita or not. If it is an angle then we'll eventually get Kawada against a guy he doesn't want to wrestle because he refuses to do the style Kawada is pushing, which is good in the sense that it'll mean Kawada will have to kick Onita's ass "whether Onita likes it or not." |
