Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone League Match: Command Bolshoi & Aoi Yagami (Rainbow Dragoon) vs. Tsukasa Fujimoto & masu-me (Cuty Pair) 8:24. Fast, energetic, enthusiastic but somewhat sloppy ICE RIBBON style match. Bolshoi vs. Fujimoto has some real potential if they continue the program beyond this and Fujimoto's ICEx60 Title win on 12/26/10, but right now they lacked the timing and chemistry to consistently pull off the speedy and somewhat complex athletic sequences they were after. It was a total sprint when Bolshoi was in, but all badass shoot style when Yagami was in. Yagami stuck to what she does well, but she was the most impressive and consistent performer in the match. Fujimoto has the ability to shift right into mat work, so that pairing worked well, but little masu-me was pathetic trying to exchange elbows with Yagami. *1/2
Leon vs. Misaki Ohata 10:00. Both were trained by Mariko Yoshida and have a similar style that mixes shooting with athletic junior heavyweight wrestling. Leon has been one of the better workers for a while, and while Ohata will probably never be quite that good, there's a lot more there than the potential. They worked well with one another, and it was a highly competitive match as Takase was much more interested in having a good match than in pulling rank on her partner. Leon allowed The Blue Fairy to play even with her throughout, and even push her a bit. Ohata made a couple of mistakes early, but too her credit she didn't allow it to effect her confidence or aggression. It wasn't an all out effort from Leon, but at times she didn't hold back, such as really laying into Ohata during the early elbow exchange. It was only going to be so good given the 10 minute time limit, but that actually yielded some drama as you assumed going in Leon would win in 7 or 8 minutes, but Ohata kept going strong and I got into seeing her not simply try to last, but actually push to get the win herself. **1/4
KAZUKI vs. Sachie Abe 6:56
Tag League The Best 2011 Red Zone League Match: Tomoko Morii & Hanako Nakamori (Hanako Kobayashi) (dog lock-be) vs. Sakura Hirota & Senri Kuroki (Hiroki) 16:33. Hirota & Kuroki dragged the Mori's down to the level where it appeared everyone lacked the athleticism and coordination to make anything look good. The match was way too long with the first half wrestled at half speed, which really made them look as skilled as a battering ram. The second half was mostly passable as they picked it up, though it was still a mess. Nakamori had some nice slaps, but there wasn't much else to brag about here. Hirota seemed more or less as "talented" as the others, but with way more charisma and even pulled a moonsault off the middle rope. 3/4*
Daily Sports Joshi Tag Title & Tag League The Best 2011 Red Zone League Match: Kayoko Haruyama & Tsubasa Kuragaki (Harukura) vs. Kaori Yoneyama & Hailey Hatred (Queens Revolution) 20:43. A quality main event with a really nice effort from all four. They worked hard from start to finish, and the match even maintained a nice level of intensity. Yoneyama, Haruyama & Kuragaki were all very consistent, and damn good. Hatred matched their effort, but was hit and miss. Kuragaki mainly worked with Hatred, so Yoneyama vs. Haruyama was the best pairing. They countered each other well, with Yoneyama usually being a step ahead of Haruyama and able to use her standing/running offense to set up her submissions. I was surprised that Haruyama scored the victory over Yoneyama even though the way the match was worked set her up to reestablish herself in the end. **3/4
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone League Match: Leon & Misaki Ohata (Lion Hole) vs. Tsukasa Fujimoto & masu-me 9:52. Fun little match with Tsukasa being on fire. She was excited to wrestle Leon & Ohata, working most of the first half. This was some impressive stuff, with Fujimoto & Ohata showing some nice chemistry. Masu-me was finally allowed to wrestle in the 2nd half, and even though Tsukasa was all over the place helping her out, she couldn't get out of the ring. Fujimoto got her cheap shots in after the match, but it was a disappointing end to what started off so promising. Leon did do a nice job of carrying masu-me, but the standard for her is passable, so it wasn't exactly the climax we were hoping for. I know Tsukasa's matches are usually this short, but because most of the best stuff came at the outset this one felt very incomplete. **1/4
Hailey Hatred vs. Hanako Nakamori 10:00
Kaori Yoneyama vs. Tomoko Morii 7:30
Tag League The Best 2011 Red Zone League Match: Kayoko Haruyama & Tsubasa Kuragaki vs. Sakura Hirota & Senri Kuroki 17:01. Hirota & Kuroki are the worst team in the tournament, and keep getting way more than ample time to prove it. Haruyama & Kuragaki couldn't really take them seriously, and Haruyama thought so little of them she dumbed things down to the point she was mainly just exchanging strikes. Kuragaki generally wrestled the way she always does, but she has a lot of jumping, charging moves, and power moves, or in other words her offense doesn't require a lot from the opposition. The match wasn't inept, Harukura are way too professional for that against any opposition, but the outcome was never in doubt and the match had way less than even the intensity that normally suggests. *1/4
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone League Match: Sachie Abe & KAZUKI (The+WANTED!?) vs. Command Bolshoi & Aoi Yagami 15:29. Competent main event. They stuck to what KAZUKI & Abe could do, and did that well. Yagami was the best in the match. She's explosive, and had the most motivation and intensity. KAZUKI carried her side, using her weight well. Bolshoi was fine, but was hurt by the lack of sequences. **
Yoshiya Kawamura vs. Magnum Takasago 5:09
Cherry vs. masu-me 5:12
Ran YuYu & Kyusei Ninja Ranmaru & Sawako Shimono vs. Command Bolshoi & Toshie Uematsu & Aoi Yagami 13:04. They couldn't decide what they wanted the match to be. Bolshoi & Yagami were stiffing people, but Ranmaru was pausing to practice cheerleading and having the opposition walk into her fist. I enjoyed Ranmaru in her Jd' days, but she was way too much into the Osaka Pro goofing today for me, with a long sequence where she wanted to have Kenny Omega powers but the opposition didn't sell her magic. Bolshoi & Yagami were good, Ran wasn't in top form, Uematsu was a non factor. Shimono sold the whole way then surprisingly scored the pinfall. *1/2
Tag League The Best 2011 Red Zone League Match: Kaori Yoneyama & Hailey Hatred vs. Sakura Hirota & Senri Kuroki 13:44. Yoneyama seemingly didn't want to be bothered wasting her time with Hirota, and mainly took the match off. Hirota decided she was too small to wrestle Hatred when Hailey asked for a test of strength, and basically joked around the whole time apart from a pretty decent Frankensteiner, getting slapped around for her efforts, or lack thereof. Kuroki greatly benefitted from working with Yoneyama, but looked the most passable she has thusfar in the tournament. She even surprised me working a pretty decent counter sequence on the mat at the outset. *
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone League Match: Leon & Misaki Ohata vs. Sachie Abe & KAZUKI 16:44. It wasn't the most complex match you'll ever see because Leon & Ohata mostly did WANTED!?'s match, but they gave close to all they had in terms of effort, energy, and offense. Abe was better here because they were mostly running around, with KAZUKI participating in most of the submission parts. Leon wasn't at her most motivated, but the match was Ohata's chance to shine, and she seized the moment, giving a passionate performance in a match where she was not only the standout performer, but also getting an upset win over recent tag champ Abe. **1/2
Tag League The Best 2011 Red Zone League Match: Kayoko Haruyama & Tsubasa Kuragaki vs. Tomoko Morii & Hanako Nakamori 12:53. There's no question who the best worker in this match is, as Kuragaki has more precision and body control than Haruyama. Nonetheless, it was nice to see Tsubasa come out strong, working a good segment with Nakamori, and wrestle the whole match like she had something to prove. This wasn't exactly big opposition for the former tag champs, but aside from having dog lock-be gain most of their advantags through double teaming, they treated them as legitimate opponents. Nakamori did a nice job of stepping up her level, and this effort allowed her to hang with the veterans. Morii was fine as well, and although you can see why it was okay that this was a shorter main event rank wise, nothing about the quality suggested it needed to end. Perhaps I need to watch more Osaka Pro, but one interesting thing about the match is Move On Arena is so oddly constructed that Nakamori was actually able to stop Haruyama's avalanche style move by ramming her face into the balcony wall. **1/2
GAMI & Sawako Shimono vs. Kayoko Haruyama & Senri Kuroka 10:31
Tsubasa Kuragaki vs. Sakura Hirota 9:55
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone League Match: Sachie Abe & KAZUKI vs. Tsukasa Fujimoto & masu-me 10:21. A showcase for Tsukasa, who was at the top of her game and singlehandedly made the match. Masu-me started off doing KAZUKI's style, with KAZUKI trying her knees until they connected and took the wind out of masu-me. Fujimoto bailed her young partner out, immediately imposing her sprint style. This lengthy segment where she was just way too quick for even Abe to come close to keeping up with, just running circles around them and making them look silly, was quite good apart from Abe having problems on a couple of the cradle attempts. Fujimoto was trying to win with the Shawn capture, but masu-me was no help in keeping the opposition from making the save, so they'd double team Fujimoto until she avoided their attack. Masu-me eventually tagged back in, and it wasn't long before she was pinned. Masu-me was okay here, but the dynamic portions were all when Tsukasa was in. **1/4
Tag League The Best 2011 Red Zone League Match: Kaori Yoneyama & Hailey Hatred vs. Tomoko Morii & Hanako Nakamori 12:46. A big showcase for Hatred, playing up her size advantage, with Yoneyama barely working and mostly selling when she was in. Nakamori worked as well with Hatred as anyone in the tournament has so far, but it still began to fall apart at the end when they tried to do a couple sequences. Hatred was best when she kept it as simple as possible, firing away with strikes and lariats. There was a good spot where she caught Nakamori's diving body attack and turned it into a bridging fallaway slam. It almost seemed to be a singles match between these two. Generally, it was alright for what it was, but the match would have benefitted from more help from the other two, and, well, tagging. *1/2
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone League Match: Command Bolshoi & Aoi Yagami vs. Leon & Misaki Ohata 7:35. Finally Bolshoi had opponents that she could use her quickness against. I have to say though that Yagami vs. Ohata was by far the highlight of the match. Ohata wouldn't back down from Yagami, and that's exactly the attitude that brings out the best in Yagami. Ohata was going to stand up for herself, but that just made Yagami try to bully her that much more, and she'd become that much more aggressive, firing back at Ohata even harder. Leon vs. Bolshoi wound up being more about Leon's knee. I think Leon tweaked it legit due to a miscommunication. Leon spidered once then released her right knee, but Bolshoi immediately smacked her off the top rope, so only Leon's left knee was supporting her. Leon left for a second, but then finished the fall mainly staying on the mat until Bolshoi made her submit. *3/4
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone Decision Match: Leon & Misaki Ohata vs. Command Bolshoi & Aoi Yagami 4:15. This should have been a continuation of the previous match, but it basically stood alone as it's own little nothing. Ohata wisely started, and looked good hitting a series of cross bodies then Leon came in, but wasn't herself. She still hit a rolling senton, but wasn't able to run around the way she usually does. She constantly sold the knee, but they had to win this match, and quickly, so the whole thing really didn't work.
Tag League The Best 2011 Blue Zone Decision Match: Leon & Misaki Ohata vs. Sachie Abe & KAZUKI 7:46. An enjoyable match while it lasted. KAZUKI & Abe jumped Leon the moment the previous match ended so Ohata didn't get a chance to start this one as well. They worked over Leon's knee, thwarting Ohata's attempts to bail Leon out, sometimes creatively. I liked the spot where KAZUKI had Leon in a fireman's carry and saw Ohata trying to attack, so she spun, causing Leon to accidentally kick Ohata in the face. There was some good stuff between Ohata & Abe, and the knee work was solid, but ultimately it was an underdeveloped half a match. *3/4
Tsukasa Fujimoto vs. masu-me 6:22. An energetic little match between the tag league partners. Fujimoto dumbs things down quite a bit, focusing more on striking, which masu-me is getting better at, though she has to really take an overly long windup to get something behind them. Basically they are trying to lay a foundation and work masu-me up to the point where she can have a real match with Fujimoto.
Command Bolshoi vs. Aoi Yagami 6:52. I thought this would be a good matchup. Yagami's intensity and malicious intent weren't lessened despite wrestling her partner, and they did the expected kicks and submissions, but it just didn't come together. They were good as a team, but lacked the chemistry opposing one another. Yagami was surprisingly hesitant, and they just had trouble getting on the same page so the setup was often too slow and deliberate. 1/2*
JWP Junior & POP Title Match: Hiren vs. Kagetsu 10:54. Kagetsu really impressed me here. She was like her trainer Meiko Satomura if you removed all the nonsense and amped up the aggression. She executed precisely, but more importantly like she really meant it, thankfully lacking that overly choreographed nature that seems to be trained into too many wrestlers that get the idea it's all about looking cute. I was really impressed by how explosive Kagetsu performed her counters, and she controlled her body a lot better than she looked like she would. Hiren was very aggressive as well, punking Kagetsu at every opportunity. She brawled a lot more than I felt she had to, but was pretty good as well. The match was consistently entertaining, but there was no real arc or build. **1/2
Hailey Hatred & Tomoko Morii & Hanako Nakamori vs. Kaori Yoneyama & Sachie Abe & KAZUKI 13:38
Tag League The Best 2011 Final: Kayoko Haruyama & Tsubasa Kuragaki vs. Leon & Misaki Ohata 21:59. One of the few matches in the tournament where all four wrestlers could be expected to deliver. Everyone made good contributions here and added to the match in their own way. Kuragaki was in Kansai mode, bringing all her big power moves. Haruyama was unselfish, doing most of the selling for her team, though still the least impressive when she was on offense. Leon was healthy, looking a lot faster and more explosive than the last time we saw her. However, it was Ohata who really stole the show in my opinion. She was showcased because she was doing the job, but I really like her attitude in all these matches, and especially here we saw some promising aspects. She was really pushing herself, trying different things that significantly upped the level of difficulty of her offense. Also, her unwillingness to slow down just because they were going longer forced the others to work harder. Haruyama called Aja Kong out after the match, as HaruKura had taken the titles from Aja & former partner Sachie Abe on 12/23/10, but Hatred came out instead, saying they didn't beat her, and in fact no one has pinned her in Japan so she should be Aja's partner. Haruyama said "Okay, okay" a bunch of times, and stoic Kuragaki said what she always says, absolutely nothing. ***
