Jd' BISON and SOUL Commercial Tape
-1hr 50min. Q=VG

This is similar to Kudo's Anthology, but it has more footage and less talk. This does a decent job of detailing Bison Kimura's career in AJW and a really good job of detailing her career in Jd'. It has highlights of her most important matches in Jd', but also shows about 37 minutes of her 60:00 draw with Lioness from 5/2/96 Tokyo KBS Hall and about 14 minutes of her bid for the TWF title against Lioness from 4/20/97 Tokyo Korakuen Hall.

La Infernal vs. Alda Moreno

Sumie Sakai & Cooga vs. Sachie Abe & Xochilt Hamada

Chikako Shiratori vs. Bison Kimura 8:16 of 15:55. Back and forth match where Bison really worked hard to try to make Shiratori look credible. Bison roughed Shiratori up on the outside with chair shots and a piledriver, but Shiratori kept using her athleticism to counter Bison and get a few good moves and near falls in. The chemistry wasn't the greatest nor the execution the smoothest, as Shiratori lacks the athleticism to truly pull this match off as fluidly as it needs to be. The effort was there though, and it was a fun and competitive match that tried hard to make Shiratori seem a lot closer to Bison's level than she really is. ** range

Jaguar Yokota & Yuko Kosugi & Miyuki Sogabe vs. Lioness Asuka & Ryuna & The Bloody. A brawl totally dominated by the heels. Kosugi was the bump girl until Lioness Liger bombed her on the floor which injured her legit, so the match eventually continued 2 on 3 since Kosugi had to be hospitalized. Jaguar was dominated, getting bloodied after Lioness piledrove her through a table, then actually pinned after Lioness being jackknifed through a table, towerhacker bombed, and Liger bombed off a table that was set up on the 2nd rope.

Jaguar Yokota vs. Sumie Sakai. Reviewed in Quebrada #39. ***

Bison Kimura & Chikako Shiratori & Yuki Lee vs. Lioness Asuka & Ryuna & The Bloody. This turned out to be the last match of Bison's career, as she breaks her arm during the match. This was a HUGE loss to Jd' that they never really recovered from, shifting a lot of pressure onto Jaguar & Lioness while the crop of young wrestlers who were a long way away developed. They continued the match as a handicap match about 5 minutes after the injury, but it was disorganized because they were improvising. *3/4

Handicap match w/ Kosugi & Sogabe's hair on the line: Yuko Kosugi & Miyuki Sogabe vs. Lioness Asuka. Not much of a match w/ the youngsters going down so easily. Jd' president got his hair cut instead.

Yuko Kosugi vs. Miyuki Sogabe

Esther Moreno & Alda Moreno vs. Kazuko Fujiwara & Sachie Abe

Yuki Lee vs. Chikako Shiratori. The crowd was actually hot, and very pro Goddess, but the match was, not surprisingly, lousy. They tried hard and there were a few nice spots, but the work wasn't too impressive. *1/2

Jd' Junior Title Match: Megumi Yabushita vs. Sumie Sakai

The Bloody vs. Ryuna

Jado vs. Gedo

Lioness Asuka & Eagle Sawai & Shark Tsuchiya vs. Jaguar Yokota & Cooga & Megumi Yabushita. Kodo Fuyuki refed for a while, but he couldn't keep any semblance of order and Jaguar wound up kicking his butt, so Tommy Ran took over. Heel dominated this one. Jaguar was the best, but the match went on forever, especially considering how one-sided it was, so it was kind of boring. Lioness pins Jaguar to set up TWF title rematch. *1/2

Jd' Battle Station 11/17/97 STIR THE BLOOD '97 taped 10/22/97 Tokyo Korakuen Hall
-1 1/2hr. Q=Ex

Yuki Lee vs. Alda Moreno

Ryuna & Fang Suzuki vs. Yuko Kosugi & Kazuko Fujiwara

Jd' Junior Title Match: Megumi Yabushita vs. The Bloody 5:05. Yabushita's knee was in bad shape, with a huge brace on it, and Bloody devoted the match to abusing it to death. She used chair after chair on it on the floor to set up the kneebar. Fang and Ryuna kept interfering, so Sakai came in to break up the big submission. Bloody quickly reapplied the kneebar, and while Sakai was able to ignore Fang's attacks and pull Yabushita to the floor, but poor Megumi couldn't get back up so Tommy Ran stopped the match. It was good for what it was, but their 1/11/98 match is certainly better since Yabushita's knee isn't an issue.

Cooga & Leoga (Miyuki Sogabe) vs. Esther Moreno & Sachie Abe

Kyoko Inoue & Sumie Sakai vs. Michiko Omukai & Chikako Shiratori 10:03 of 18:58. Shiratori & Omukai were eager to wrestler little Sakai, but looked at each other when it came time to square off with supersized superstar Kyoko. Kyoko wasn't ready to take the idols seriously, but they sort of earned her respect with a couple of planchas and an elevated missile kick. Shiratori continued the run with her cross-arm German suplex and la magistral, so Kyoko used her real offense, the lariat and the Niagara driver for the immediate win. This was way to reminiscent of '96 AJW or the entirety of NEO with Kyoko making the younger, smaller wrestlers look weak, but it was a pretty decent match up until the useless finish.

TWF World Title Match: Lioness Asuka vs. Jaguar Yokota 15:50. An excellent match in the Lioness formula, with Lioness totally dominating an exceptionally worked contest with her impressive big moves and gimmick spots. Jaguar hit a moonsault attack early, but Lioness turned the match by heaving her off her shoulders to the floor and hitting her tope. Jaguar would hit an athletic counter once in a while to give her fans hope, but the legend was badly abused and pretty well overwhelmed by the mighty heel. Lioness piledrove her through a table and using the jagged edge to cut her head. She also tombstone piledrove and Ligerbombed Jaguar on the floor. Finally, Asuka set Yokota up for the kill with a Ligerbomb off a table set across the top rope, but Jaguar pulled a Frankensteiner out of thin, or rather midair to take the title in dramatic fashion! The fans were going nuts for the finish, and thrilled that she found a way to pull it out after being dominated so badly by her protege. One of the best Jd' matches, though their back and forth 1/11/98 match blows it out of the water. ****1/4

Obatchi Iizuka vs. Hiroyo Muto. 2:42 shown.

Cooga & Yuki Miyazaki vs. Crusher Maedomari & Ryuna. Cool reverse Frankensteiner off 1st finisher by Miyazaki. 2:37 shown.

Shark Tsuchiya vs. Yuko Kosugi. Usual Shark nonsense. She took like 2 bumps. 3:46 shown.

Bukyogun vs. Oz Academy: The Bloody & Fang Suzuki vs. Sugar Sato & Chikayo Nagashima. Bloody vs. Nagashima was real good, but Fang & Sato were worthless. 3:53 shown.

Jd' Junior Title: Sumie Sakai vs. Megumi Yabushita. These two still wrestled the same style at this point, but it worked because they bumped for each other so well. They went along with each others moves too easily though. Some really cool submission spots, but others that didn't do a whole lot for the match. The monkey flip off the top into an udehishigigyakujujigatame finisher was innovative and the smoothness of the application was pretty incredible. ***

Lioness Asuka vs. Kyoko Inoue. Lioness was definitely pushing the gimmick style. Kyoko would try to get back to traditional wrestling, but since she couldn't do enough damage to Lioness to be able to exert her will upon her, these two just wound up killed each other with big moves involving props and weapons. With the exception of a few rest holds that killed the momentum, it was a fast-paced all action match. It was similar to their previous matches, but they were great matches so it's hard to complain about that. The main difference was that Lioness' seconds, The Bloody & Fang Suzuki, were pissed that Lioness abandoned them for SSU, so they helped their enemy Kyoko out, while Lioness had new lackeys Sugar Sato & Chikayo Nagashima interfering on her behalf. The finish wasn't really fulfilling after all the killer spots, but both women were on top of their game today and gave us another really strong spot oriented match. This might have been the best match of their series if they had come up with a more convincing way to close the door on Kyoko's title reign, but nonetheless it was a strong contender for women's match of the year.     12/8/97 Octagon Challenge CMA-KPW Real Fight (shoot matches)

Megumi Yabushita vs. Ji Hee Yu 2:51. Yabushita makes her mma debut here, coming close to winning with the jujigatame a couple of times before finally getting the job done.

Rieko Amano vs. Yoko Takahashi. Pretty good. Mainly a bunch of strikes because all these women are inexperienced in shooting, so their technique isn't too good at all.

Lioness Asuka vs. Cho Oto. Oto was no match, as Lioness just took her down and made her submit.

NEW YEAR FESTIVAL '98 1/11/98 Tokyo Korakuen Hall

Yuki Lee & Esther Moreno vs. Ryuna & Fang Suzuki. Esther was the only one who did much, although no one was particularly good or bad. *3/4

Jd' Junior Title: The Bloody vs. Megumi Yabushita 7:15 of 11:43. A great effort, doing all they could to have a high quality match, even if it was above their means. Yabushita's offense wasn't very developed, she pretty much just used dropkicks and her judo submissions, but they did a really fast-paced, action packed match. Bloody did a good job of carrying her, and threw in some nice suplexes. Admittedly, they tried to do a little too much, but the effort was there and the experience is coming. *** range

Mima Shimoda & Etsuko Mita & Saya Endo vs. Cooga & Chikako Shiratori & Sachie Abe. Pretty disappointing match that lacked flow. Cachorras had to lead the Jd' women through the brawl, but the Jd' women couldn't always follow and Cooga didn't want to take even a semi-hard chair shot. Match actually worked better when LCO weren't brawling because the opposition was more at home in regular pro style. Saya was better than all three of the Jd' women. Jd' team eventually got some offense in, but it never looked like they could win. Abe looked pretty good at the end, so that probably made her the best of the Jd' trio. *3/4

TWF World Single Title Match: Jaguar Yokota vs. Lioness Asuka 17:11. This immaculate hyper paced spotfest isn't exactly the match you'd expect from women in their mid to late 30's, to put it mildly! These two have the utmost espect for one another, total trust. They know they can go as fast and as hard as they can, that this is their chance to match spectacular with spectacular and deliver a wild workrate extravaganza. And they broke free from the Lioness formula that kept their 10/22/97 match from reaching the heights it was capable of, this time playing even and holding absolutely nothing back! Lioness' highlights included a Ligerbomb on the floor, hanging Jaguar off the balcony, a piledriver off the apron through a table, and an avalache style towerhacker bomb. Jaguar's highlights included a tope con giro off the stage, doublearm piledriver on the apron, and avalanche style doublearm suplex. Even if Jaguar turning Lioness' avalache style piggyback drop into a reverse Frankensteiner didn't work perfectly, it's a credit to these two that they are willing to continue to modernize, to try to incorporate the roughest, toughest, and most athletic of today's spots and bumps into a matchup that, in the mid 80's, was way ahead of what pretty much anyone else was doing in these regards. I used to prefer Lioness' 4/26/98 & 5/6/98 matches against Kyoko Inoue, but Jaguar brings a lot more to the table in 1998 than Kyoko does, even if Kyoko is still in her 20's, and this is definitely a more well balanced match as far as getting equally impressive contributions from both parties. In any case, it says a lot for Lioness that she's in arguably the 3 best women's matches of 1998. ****1/2
