Shadow WX pinned Zandig at 13:46 after a brainbuster from the upper part of the corner onto a table to win the final of the World Extreme Cup Kessho Tournament. They had the common Big Japan gimmicks of barbed wire boards in the corner and flourescent light bulbs. WifeBeater sliced WX's arm up with the blade of a lawn mower. In WE
C league matches, The Winger beat Terry Bull at 7:42 with something called MBT and Mustafa (the no-talent, no mic skills ECW reject) beat Harley Ruiz in 5:45.

4/24:

4/24 Tokyo Korakuen Hall
Ryuji Yamakawa retained the WEW Hardcore Senshuken, pinning Kintaro Kanemura at 22:16. These two have a rematch on the 5/5, and Yamakawa will almost certainly drop the title there. That's a good deal for Big Japan though because Yamakawa will still have won 2 out of their 3 matches.
Zandig & WifeBeater beat Shadow WX & The Winger when Dandig pinned Winger at 10:57. WX "rectified" the nutty accidental fire incident from the last time they were at Korakuen Hall and didn't light his shirt on fire this time. The CZW guys used lots of gimmicks like an extra big stapler and barbed wire. WX said he saw a similar style (to Big Japan) for the first time and felt jealous, but he'd get revenge on the 5/3 Akihabara show.
In a WEC league match, Mike Samples beat Tomoaki Honma in 18:55. As good as Honma is, I can't imagine almost 19 minutes of Samples in singles.

4/5:

4/5 Aichi Nagoya Shi Nakamura Sports Center 1,332
CZW won the first match in the "WORLD WAR 2000 BJWVSCZW" series as their team of WifeBeater & Nick Gage & Justice Pain beat Tomoaki Honma & Ryuji Yamakawa & Jun Kasai when WifeBeater dumped Jun Kasai onto a flourescent light bulb with his neckhangingbomb. This doesn't sound like a great start to the series drawing wise since they announce these kind of numbers for all of their shows.
Abdullah Kobayashi (3) used a reverse firethunder at 7:39 to pin Jun Kasai (2) in a WEC league match. Kasai had a chance to tie The Winger for first, but his lost here clinched the win for Winger.
Tomoaki Honma (3) used his rolling elbow at 11:29 to pin The Winger (4) in a WEC league match. This tied Honma and Kobayashi for 2nd, which shows how goofy this league was because the only guy that had a chance to tie for first coming into the last day was Kasai, who isn't pushed at nearly the level that Honma and Kobayashi are. I don't mind pushing Winger & Kasai since they need it, but it's kinda goofy to have a 2nd place match rather than a final.
Tomoaki Honma beat Abdullah Kobayashi to win second place in the WEC league, pinning him at 11:00 in his figure 4 style jackknife hold.

4/2:

4/2 Ibaraki Kashima Shiritsu Taiikukan 1,116

Tomoaki Honma & Ryuji Yamakawa beat Shadow WX & Daisuke Sekimoto when Yamakawa used his reverse Tigerdriver on Sekimoto at 14:14.
In a WEC league match, The Winger made Jun Kasai submit to a henkei STF at 12:39.

3/26 Nagano Misatomura Bunka Koen Taiikukan 1,558
Big Japan started their World Extreme Cup league with The Winger making Abdullah Kobayashi submit to a henkei STF at 12:22 and Jun Kasai scoring a major upset when he pinned death match king Tomoaki Honma in a German suplex hold at 13:00.
The main event was Ryuji Yamakawa & Kamikaze & MEN'S Teio over Abdullah The Butcher & Crazy Sheik & Masayoshi Motegi when Kamikaze moonsaulted Motegi at 16:45.

3/22:

Big Japan & CZW are starting an interpromotional feud on 4/5 were the losing promotion will pay the winning promotion $50,000. This isn't a short series of matches, it's supposed to be the most wins in a year.

3/2:

3/2 Kanagawa Kawasaki Shi Taiikukan 1,521
The Kintaro Kanemura invasion angle isn't drawing. Attendance at Korakuen Hall was down even though the show where he debuted was more stacked, and this was just a total flop in a near 5,000 seat arena. In Kanemura's defense, a six man main event isn't likely to cut it on a major show unless there are a lot bigger names than The Winger involved (I think Honma would have been in his spot if he was healthy), and the undercard had nothing of interest other than a junior match, and juniors don't draw anything for this promotion.Kanemura got a measure of revenge of Ryuji Yamakawa today, teaming with Jado & Gedo to defeat Yamakawa & Great Kojika & The Winger when Jado pinned Winger at 14:02.
Abdullah The Butcher & Crazy Sheik beat Abdullah Kobayashi & Benkei Daikokubo when Butcher used his elbow drop on Kobayashi at 6:45.
Luckily, the M factor didn't come into play as MEN'S Teio beat Masayoshi Motegi with his rolling elbow at 8:50 to earn the spot in the SUPER J-CUP.

2/29:

2/29 Saitama Kumantani Shi Min Taiikukan 1,558
Masayoshi Motegi took another step in his perennial quest to be the low point of junior tournaments when her Ligerbombed Fantastic at 9:55 to advance to the finals of Big Japan's tournament to decide their representative in the SUPER J-CUP. MEN'S Teio also advanced to the final when he made Guerrero De Futuro submit to his Teio lock at 13:02.
In the main event, Ryuji Yamakawa & Kamikaze & The Winger beat Abdullah The Butcher & Crazy Sheik & Chabinger when Yamakawa used his reverse Tigerdriver on Chabinger at 17:53.

2/27:

2/27 Fukushima Okuma Machi Dai-ni Taiikukan 1,521 sellout
Ryuji Yamakawa & Kamikaze defeated Abdullah Kobayashi & Benkei Daikokubo in 10:09 when Yamakawa pinned Kobayashi in his reverse Tigerdriver.

2/23:

2/23 Kanagawa Odawara Arena Sub Arena 1,233
Abdullah Jr. Kobayashi has changed his name to Abdullah Kobayashi. Kobayashi teamed with Benkei Daikokubo in the main event to lose to Tomoaki Honma & Ryuji Yamakawa when Honma used fire thunder on Kobayashi at 14:34.
In the tournament to decide who will represent Big Japan in the SUPER J-CUP, Masayoshi Motegi beat the Winger in 15:22 with a running Liger bomb and MEN'S Teio beat Ryuji Ito in 11:00 with a rolling elbow and a lariat.

2/22: Yamakawa Captures FMW Title

Big Japan 2/22 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 1,800
Ryuji Yamakawa won the WEW Hardcore Senshuken (title) from FMW's Kintaro Kanemura when he pinned Kanemura in his reverse Tigerdriver at 22:52. Yamakawa is the 2nd champion. This is a great win for Yamakawa because Kanemura pretty much took over for Onita as the Japanese King Of The Death Match when Onita retired the second time. It also allows Big Japan to push both of their top two wrestlers, Yamakawa and Honma, as death match kings at the same time.
Tomoaki Honma successfully defended the Dai Nihon Nintei Death Match Heavykyu Senshuken for the first time, defeating Abdullah Jr. Kobayashi in a Barbed Wire Board & Ladder Death Match when he made Kobayashi submit to a wakigatame at 20:43.
In a match billed as BJ Grand Prix 2000 Extreme Tournament Yushosen=Geikoto Board Street Fight Death Match, Mike Samples beat Shadow WX in 10:36 with a lariat. This match was overshadowed by a really unfortunate incident where they weren't able to put the fire out after WX did his flame type of body press. In order to pull this spot off on a nightly basis, they created a special shirt for WX a long time ago that has a pad in the front. What they do is dip the pad in kerosene earlier in the night, and then when he's ready to do this spot he puts the shirt on and they light it up when he's on the top rope so he can immediately jump off onto his opponent. He then rolls out of the ring immediately and the seconds extinguish the fire by dousing him with buckets of water. Unfortunately, this time WX was tumbling around the ring and the floor for more than 1 minute and no one could put it out. The mat even caught on fire. Finally WX was able to throw the T-shirt off. His arm and abdomen were burned, so he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance after the match. Incidents like this help put into perspective the kind of risks the wrestlers take to entertain us. Obviously this is never supposed to happen, but the more dangerous the gimmicks the more damage that can be done on the rare occasion when something goes wrong.
Dynamite Kansai beat Kiyoko Ichiki by TKO in 6:31 when the ref stopped the match after a low kick to the face (she must have been trying to get up or something?)
In a match billed as J-CUP Special 6 Man Tag Match, Masayoshi Motegi & Fantastic & Ryuji Ito beat MEN'S Teio & The Winger & Guerrero de Futuro in 17:14 when Motegi used a fisherman buster on Futuro. Now I'm that much more afraid that Motegi would be rearing his ugly head in the J-CUP.
I'm really surprised this didn't sellout because this lineup was stacked. You had two world title matches and one tournament final, and all three of these matches guaranteed the gore that the Big Japan fans come to see. Plus, you had a star FMW wrestler on a Big Japan card for the first time, and it was a singles match with a title up for grabs.

2/2:

Abdullah Jr. Kobayashi will challenge Tomoaki Honma for the Dai Nihon Nintei Death Match Heavykyu Senshuken on 2/22 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall, which is the same show that will have the Ryuji Yamakawa vs. Kintaro Kanemura hard core title match. As a publicity stunt to lead to his challenge, Kobayashi's "special training" was cutting beer bottles with a hand sword.

1/10:

1/10 Hakata Starlane 1,800
Big Japan had the semifinals of their Grand Prix 2000 Tournament. Tomoaki Honma, the promotions champion, lost to beyond awful American Mike Samples in 16:35 following a lariat. Former champion Shadow WX then beat Crazy Sheik at 10:18 with 2 backdrops in succession. This sets up yet another Samples vs. WX match for the final, which I guess makes sense because they had a big feud going that seemed to finally calm down of late. One would figure WX would win because that would set up two challengers for Honma in addition to his partner Yamakawa that he won the title from on 1/2.
Now that Kamikaze & Shunme Matsuzaki no longer hold the tag titles, they repaid Abdullah The Butcher & Benkei Daikokubo for putting them over when Abdullah elbow dropped Matsuzaki at 11:42

1/7:

1/7 Osaka Furitsu Taiikukan 2 1,800 sellout
Tomoaki Honma won Big Japan's top singles belt on 1/2, and now he has their top tag belt as well. Honma & Ryuji Yamakawa defeated Kamikaze & Shunme Matsuzaki at 18:06 when Honma used fire thunder on Matsuzaki. Honma & Yamakawa are the 10th champions.
In a BJ Grand Prix 2000 first round match, Shadow WX won an Anywhere Street Fight over The Winger when he Ligerbombed him at 12:28.

1/5:

1/5 Twin Messe Shizuoka 1,305
Mike Samples beat Benkei Daikokubo in a BJ Grand Prix 2000 Tournament first round match, pinning him at 10:12 following a lariat.
The main event saw Tomoaki Honma & Ryuji Yamakawa (Honma is now considered the star of the team because he won the death match title) down MEN'S Teio & Jun Kasai when Yamakawa used his reverse Tigerdriver on Kasai at 11:06.

1/3:

1/3 Mie Yokkaichi Shi Australia Kinenkan (memorial hall) 1,440
Crazy Sheik beat Jun Kasai in a BJ Grand Prix 2000 Tournament first round match, pinning him at 7:53 following an elbow drop.
The main event saw Abdullah The Butcher & Masayoshi Motegi go over Shadow WX & The Winger when Abdullah elbow dropped Winger at 11:28. 2 of the top 3 matches on a puroresu show ended in an elbow drop, I wonder what year that last happened?

1/2: Honma Is "King Of Death"

1/2 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 2,100 sellout
Big Japan's best wrestler, Tomoaki Honma, captured their top title, the Dai Nihon Nintei Death Match Heavykyu Senshuken, for the first time. Honma is only in his third year, but this promotion has finally committed to pushing young wrestlers, so Honma was turned back in previous attempts by Ryuji Yamakawa, who debuted in 94, and Shadow WX, who debuted in 1995. Coming off his first singles victory over "hardcore icon" Abdullah The Butcher, Honma won this Kosunkugi (spike) & Barbed Wire Board Death Match at 23:45 when he pinned Ryuji Yamakawa following an elbow bat (the Misawa style elbow that really looks like a forearm). With Yamakawa failing in his first defense, Honma became the 9th champion. This was also a first round match in the BJ Grand Prix 2000 Tournament, so Honma will be moving on in that. The tournament should create a new challenger for his title, although since he's never defended the title before, I suppose they could opt to put him over in this tournament as a means to further establish him.
Big Japan President Great Kojika announced that he would attend the 1/5 FMW Tokyo Korakuen Hall show to start a "survival war" with them. Fuyuki and his ECW Japan league are also scheduled to invade FMW at this show.
Kamikaze & Shunme Matsuzaki made their 3rd successful defense of the Dai Nihon Nintei Tag Senshuken, turning back Shadow WX & The Winger at 18:38 when Kamikaze axe bombered Winger.
AJW's Tomoko Watanabe made an appearance, defeating Chihiro Nakano at 15:21 with her new hell smasher finisher

12/14: Yamakawa vs. Honma Rematch Set

Big Japan announced the main matches on thier Shinshun Great Series (they always steal the names of All Japan tours, just changing one word). The highlight will undoubtly be a rematch of the best death match on 1999, Ryuji Yamakawa vs. Tomoaki Honma. This will take place on 1/2 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall and once again be for Yamakawa's Dai Nihon Nintei Death Match Heavykyu Senshuken (Big Japan recognized death match heavyweight title). The winner will also advance to the semifinal of the 1st Big Japan Grand Prix. Their match on 6/20/99 was just insane with all kinds of killer pro wrestling moves made more deadly because of the danger of doing them onto the various gimmicks. Honma can really work but knows what it takes to be a top guy in a death match, while Yamakawa is an adequate worker who has no qualms about putting his body on the line. Both men would probably be wrestling in the junior division if they were in a different league, but have been able to get over their lack of size through willingness to take incredible risks and ungodly punishment. Last time they were able to do a junior style match with a bunch of sick gimmick spots as opposed to the crappy US hardcore matches that are just two guys hitting each other over the head with weapons for 5 or 10 minutes while the announcers make fun of them or talk about something else. Yamakawa just won the title back from Shadow WX in the main event of their major Kanagawa Yokohama Bunka Taiikukan show on 12/4. However, Honma actually defeated the legendary no talent sloth Abdullah The Butcher on the same show, and Abdullah pretty much never does a job, so it might be a good idea to give the title to Honma coming off the biggest win of his career.
The other main match on 1/2 is Kamikaze & Shunme Matsuzaki defending the Dai Nihon Nintei Tag Heavykyu Senshuken against Shadow WX & The Winger
1/3 Mie Yokkaichi Shi Australia Kinenkan (memorial hall) has Jun Kasai vs. Crazy Shiga with the winner advancing to the BJGP semifinals
1/5 Shizuoka Twin Messe Shizuoka has Mike Samples vs. Benkei Daikokubo with the winner advancing to the BJGP semifinals. I'm setting the over/under at -**
1/7 Osaka Furitsu Taiikukan 2 has Shadow WX vs. The Winger with the winner advancing to the BJGP semifinals.
1/10 Fukuoka Hakata Starlane has the semifinals of the 1st Big Japan Grand Prix. The winner of the Yamakawa vs. Honma match will face the winner of the Samples vs. Benkei and the winner of Kasai vs. Shiga will face the winner of Shadow vs. Winger. Both matches will be barbed wire board death matches.
1/12 Oita Kenritsu Kayabacho Taiikukan has Yamakawa & Honma & Samples vs. Shadow & Winger & Kasai in a BJ Grand Prix Special 6 Man Tag Barbed Wire Board Death Match
1/13 Kagoshima Arena has Yamakawa & Honma vs. Winger & Kasai
1/14 Oita Takeda (?) Shi Kenrosha Taiiku Center has Yamakawa & Honma & MEN'S Teio vs. Abdullah & Shiga & Benkei and Shadow & Winger vs. Samples & Kamikaze
