Campeonato Mundial Semicompleto:
Shocker vs. Dr. Wagner Jr.

1) Beautiful way to start the match and complete the first fall, trading off on matwork. Great chain wrestling and counters by both, with Wagner controlling the stanza by focusing on 1000% Guapo’s legs. He wound up catching Shocker with a dropkick to the knee that Shocker did a great job of selling starting with a flip bump. Doc then locked him in a figure four, and after a brief attempt to escape Shocker was forced to tap.

2) Shocker started this fall on the floor trying to walk off the pain. Once he got back in the ring, Doc caught him with two stiff knee dropkicks and then rehooked the figure four. After Shocker refused to lose, Doc broke it and then reapplied another one which Shocker escaped by getting to the ropes. Shocker then mounted a hope spot with two high boots, and after being briefly cut-off with a Dragon screw he went after Doc’s knees. Doc came back and attempted his fourth figure four, but this time Shocker caught him in a small package to tie things up.

3) Tercera caida really saw things open up. Shocker got a 2-3/4 count off another small package as Doc went for a Dragon screw. Then they exchanged a series of helastiff clotheslines with both men refusing to budge. Instead of trying a third lariat, Shocker sent Wagner to the floor with an explosive high kick and then followed it up with a tope. Doc avoided Shocker’s attempt at a springboard plancha, however, and got two strong near falls on the champion. First Doc dropped Shocker with a uranage, and after a 2-1/2 count he dropped Shocker on his head with a Michinoku driver II for another near 3. Shocker then caught Doc in an abdominal stretch and fell over into an Oklahoma roll for the victory. Excellent match where Doc nearly got over as a face by pushing Shocker to the limit. 18:19

Veneno & Violencia & The Killer (captain)
vs.
Mr. Mexico & Poder Boricua (captain) & Averno

1) If you like the punch and kick shtick then Los Boricuas are for you since that’s 99% of what they do. But for the other 1% Veneno y Killer hit Averno with a double suplex followed up by a top rope splash from Violencia for 1a. Veneno then came off the top with a flip senton on Mr. Mexico to finish the fall up.

2) This was won by the lesser rudos as Poder made Killer tap to a headlock.

3) Like every other match involving these clowns, this totally sucked. Killer was DQ’d for tearing off most of Poder’s mask putting an end to this torture. Los Boricuas could possibly be the lamest group assembled since MIA with their leader, Castillo, being as big a talentless load as Bill DeMott. And like any match involving the laughing man, this had less heat then an open air empty arena in the middle of the artic. 10:14

El Taliban:
Emilio Charles Jr. (captain) & Bestia Salvaje & Scorpio Jr.
vs.
Negro Casas & Mr. Niebla & Black Warrior

1) Two awful racist groups in a row, is this the WWF of 1997? As Dr. Smith would say to William, “oh the pain, the pain.” Bestia pinned Warrior with the assistance of Charles (who looks like he could’ve easily been part of the original Planet Of The Apes and is old enough to play the Lawgiver) after a Scorpio senton off the top. Scorpio then beat Casas with a powerbomb to end the fall.

2) Much like the first fall, this was mercifully short. Casas got Salvaje to tap to an STF, or at least he apparently did as neither ref could be bothered to signal it though they did force Bestia to hit the apron. Charles came in, and instead of being in charge he was pinned with a drop toe hold (where he landed on his knees) by Warrior, seriously. As you know, when the captain loses the fall is over but not today kids. You see here that wasn’t the case for some reason, so Niebla went on to pin Salvaje after a back splash and then Casas pinned Scorpio with a Scorpion Deathdrop. Unfortunately, those two didn’t carry over to the third fall so we still had to go through with it.

3) On the plus side, Mr. Niebla totally tried to and nearly did salvage this mess by working his ass off here. He was all over the place going helastiff on los rudos and dancing like a wildman. And deservedly so, he beat Charles with his pretzel like submission in 10:10. It’d be hard for any match to follow the Shocker/Wagner greatness, but I guess they figured that if they put these two atrocious ones on before it then nobody would be left watching to see it so it made sense in their minds to have 50 minutes of crap after the first 25.

AAA

A Una Sola Caida:
Mini Abismo Negro & Mascarita Maligna
vs.
Octagoncito & Mascarita Sagrada

It was great to see these given a chance to go “long”, and they didn’t disappoint. Aside from sloppiness by Maligna early on, everything they did was on like neckbone. Everyone shined, but Mascarita was a supernova as usual. He hit like 10 awesome rana variations including a dragon rana to the floor on Abismo and then later on a springboard rana off the apron to the floor on Abismo. Octagon followed the first one up with a skytwister press to the floor on a standing Maligna. Los tecs were over like crazy here, as literally everything they did received a huge pop, especially from the ninos. Mascarita eventually rolled through on a forward roll into a small package on Abismo for the victory, and got a much deserved ovation for his work here. Awesome match.

A Una Sola Caida:
La Parka & El Zorro & Mr. Aguila & Alebrije & Cuije
vs.
Abismo Negro & Electroshock & Chessman & Monster & Chucky

These guys rolled out some sweet science as well, including Electroshock and Chessman who I've never seen look so good. Serious highlights here, including a great extended sequence starting with Parka y Shock. Parka caught a charging Shock and tried a catatonic on him that was reversed into a DDT by Electro. Electro then posed on Parka’s back while Abismo y Chessman held him up Kaientai style. Shock then stood up on Parka’s back and was dropkicked from behind to the floor by Zorro (who got serious height on it). As Electro rose to his feet, he was dropped by a corkscrew dive by Aguila, who went over Parka to the floor. Parka then recovered to hit Chessman with an Asai moonsault that also had good height to it. Then he danced up the aisle to the delight of the fans, myself included. Not to be outdone, Alebrije y Cujie were next up with their horror show rivals. Cujie caught Chucky with a tope and then after a flip fake, Alebrjie nailed Monster with a springboard backsplash off the middle rope to the floor. This left Zorro in the ring with Chessman and Abismo. Los rudos missed with some kendo stick action, but Electroshock connected with his taser. The problem for him was that it shocked Abismo, who sold it like he was dead. Zorro then attempted to crotch Chessman on the top rope, but Chessman beat him to it by mule kicking him in the groin. The heel ref gave a fast count and los rudos got their arms raised. Ironically enough, this match also went 9:35 and saw an Abismo on his back as the big guy got stretchered out as a result of the taser shot. Another strong match.

Rey de Reyes Finals:
Octagon vs. Cibernetico vs. Pirata Morgan vs. Canek

Lots of teamwork here between los tecnicos (Canek y Octagon) and los rudos (Morgan & Cibernetico) despite this being single elimintation. After Pirata briefly grounded Octagon with some legwork, Octagon caught him in an armbar for the tap in 2:41. Octagon didn’t last much longer however, as Pentagon did a run-in while the ref was distracted and clobbered him with some nunchucks enabling Cibernetico to cover him for the 3. Alebrije and Antonio Pena (owner of AAA) came out three minutes later to catch Cibernetico’s attention. When he finally saw them, it worked, and this allowed Canek to (barely) lift him for a press slam followed by a running senton and an elbow for the win and big pop in 6:30. After the match, Pena and Alebrijie destroyed Cibernetico in the aisle way to a huge pop as Cibernetico is obviously not a popular man. Not bad, but if you blinked you missed it.
