ARSION CARNIVAL ARSION '98 12/18/98

THE FIFTH ARSION TWINSTAR OF ARSION Title Match:
Rie Tamada & Hiromi Yagi
vs.
Michiku Omukai & Yumi Fukawa

Omukai & Fukawa got the first title shot because they had the best record in the tag league that didn't advance to the final. The only thing that held this match back was the short length. Everyone was on, so it was not only a very exciting match, but one with well executed and well ordered spots. Yagi & Tamada once again proved they had the best teamwork in ARSION, but it was Yagi & Fukawa who were great here, and made the match. Those two were just tearing it up on the mat with quick moves and transitions into submissions.

Omukai & Fukawa were banged up as usual, with Omukai having a big bruise under her eye and Fukawa having a big bandage on her forehead. They were really intense, so it came off as though they really wanted to make the most of an incredibly rare opportunity for them to hold major titles. They also were kind of excitable, attacking Tamada & Yagi as soon as they entered the ring. However, the ring intros not being canceled worked because Murayama pulled Omukai away and some of the seconds pulled Fukawa away.

Yagi plancha'd both opponents then Rie actually did the Hokuto tope con hilo to both. This is kind of ironic because one of Tamada's nicknames is Baby Hokuto, based on a supposed resemblance in their faces. Tamada's dropkicks look better now because she is now doing them the same way Yagi does, bending her knees and then extending them to jolt the opponent. Meanwhile, Omukai's kicks all hit their mark, and Fukawa is one of the only women in ARSION who is moving toward wrestling like her nickname, the Princess of Submission. In fact, it should be pointed out that most of the "concept" nicknames seemed to have been scrapped, so add that to the list of ARSION's ideas that were never seen through. Anyway, at one point Fukawa did her old fisherman suplex, all the old moves that were initially looked down upon were starting to be brought back, then swung right into an udehishigigyakujujigatame. The speed she did this at made it that much more impressive.

Yagi & Fukawa were displaying great speed and technique by countering each other left and right. Tamada & Yagi did their consecutive diving footstomps then double diving footstomp spot. Tamada & Omukai got a little goofy when they wrestled each other, but that was about the only downside here. Omukai tried to Tiger suplex Tamada, but Yagi missile kicked her. Tamada and Yagi followed by each giving Omukai a missile kick then doing their double missile kick. Tamada did her old Dragon suplex, and it was actually enough to pin Omukai, which once again showed that the trend of going back to their roots. The finish would have been better if they did something to eliminate Fukawa, rather than having Yagi kick her once in a while to fend her off. This match had awesome action and was too good to warrant complaint about this being yet another spot oriented TWINSTAR match.

Miko: Omukai and Fukawa both came in with a ton of attitude, first trying to attack TamaYagi before they even got into the ring, then when they offered to shake hands. The battle spilled out of the ring with chairs thrown and a few dives pulled off before we get back to the ARSION style wrestling. Tamada was nothing special here again, but the exchanges between Fukawa and Yagi were sharp and Omukai sold well and got in some good moves. An excellent match with a ton of action, but while everyone else either is good or has gotten good in ARSION Tamada seems to have hit her plateau and gotten just about as good as she is going to get.

Jerome: Another great match. It was a total workrate style match, but with a lot more submissions than usual. Rie worked at her best, with great looking dropkicks and a perfect tope con hilo. Her teamwork with Yagi is very good and they use a lot of double team spots, making them kind of the Midnight Express of ARSION. The highlight of the match was Yagi and Fukawa working on the mat. They went from a submission to another with great counters at a really fast pace. Both are great, but Fukawa is particularly smooth and fluid. They did some great spots like Yagi's ipponzeoi from the tope rope. The pace was really fast during the whole match and it was exciting all along. I just wished it would have been longer.
