Heavyweight Bout: Jeremy Horn (freestyle) vs. Jason Godsey (integrated) |
|
Godsey tried to use his big size and strength advantage over Horn, who moved up to the heavyweight ranks for at least this match because he wanted a shot to avenge a previous loss to Godsey. Horn had superior ability on the mat though. He kept moving to keep Godsey, who was trying to punch, off balance. Godsey was sloppy in that he was too concerned with his offense to make sure he didn't make any mistakes. Horn was quick to capitalize on Godsey leaving his arm exposed, and Godsey tapped immediately because he knew there he had no chance to escape this arm bar. I was really disappointed in Godsey's performance here. He's a lot
better than this, and has way too much experience to be losing in this
fashion. We haven't really seen anyone winning by getting a submission
on while they were on the bottom since the days of Royce Gracie, and
the reason is that you have to put yourself in a bad position in order
to lose in this manner. Jason: This matched showed that one mistake is all a fighter needs to capitalize on to win. It started off with both fighters testing each other with strikes then Godsey was able to take Horn down to ground with a shoot. Godsey decided that he wanted up, and Horn almost reversed him into a leg lock, so Godsey thought better of getting up and concentrated on striking from the mount. He left his arm exposed for one split second though, and Horn managed to get the arm bar for the win. A good short match that had good action for 30 seconds when they were fighting for position on the ground. Miko: Horn had said at one point that this match was just for revenge
and after this he'll drop back to middleweight. That is probably a good
idea, since he looked pretty soft here, despite winning early when Godsey
left his arm out for the armbar while punching. Special Thanks to: Jason Higgs & Miko Kubota - Michiku Pro 2:08 |
