HYPER VISUAL FIGHTING TOURNAMENT
ZION '98 Junkessho Michiko Omukai vs. Mariko Yoshida |
|
This was a good match, but it was hurt by the fact that Yoshida had to work another match. I think this could have been the best match on the show if it was the only match these women had to work, as my main problem with the match is that it was kind of short. They did the match in Yoshida's ground style. Omukai's kicks were not killer, but they did land solidly. She came close to winning with her rolling savate, and expecially her Tiger suplex. Yoshida avoided her swandive wheel kick though, and worked really hard to get the submission, dragging Omukai to the center of the ring and applying the sankakujime (triangle choke) for the win. Omukai got over well even though she lost. Keith: This was another match I enjoyed just to see how diverse both women are, particularly in seeing how Omukai can adapt to Yoshida's ground work. One thing that I noticed in comparing this match to Omukai vs. Fukawa was that Yoshida isn't that good at blocking kicks, while Fukawa actually defends herself against Omukai's kicks by bringing up her hands. The part in the end with Yoshida locking on her henkei sleeper hold and Omukai fighting out was cool because she had lasted so long in that hold. Thus, the crowd (as well as I) popped pretty loudly for Omukai's determination. Once again, Yoshida stood above her fallen victim arrogantly as the spider woman caught yet another victim in her web of submissions. Jerome: Did I mention that Yoshida was great? It's too bad that this match only lasted 7:59 because it could have been really excellent. In fact, it was excellent for 7:59. Omukai once again made all the submissions very dramatic, which was fitting since Yoshida always looked like she wants to hurt you very bad when she snaps a hold. The kicks were very good, and Omukai was once again totally intense. The matwork was typically very strong and Michiko showed that she gets better every day. The triangle strangle was great because Omukai really fight it for a long time before giving up. Yoshida has a cold arrogance that makes her quite a subtle heel when she's in with a charismatic girl like Omukai. Special thanks to: Jerome Denis & Keith Watanabe - Manami Toyota Rules! 7:59
