Quebrada Issue 64D Puroresu Pro-Wrestling Match Review
Issue 64D - 2/5/00
ARSION STARTIST '98 8/9/98

THE THIRD STARTIST:
Reggie Bennett (ARSION USA 15-1-2) vs. Mari Apache (ARSION Mexico 5-5-2)

The idea of this match was to help get Mari over, but the fans didn't seem to buy it. Maybe they were watching intently, but when neither wrestler gets a streamer and they get no reaction in 15 minutes, disinterest seems to be a more likely explanation.

Reggie did an admirable job of carrying the match, but you couldn't expect much because Mari was so inexperienced and they had barely worked together before. I mean, it's pretty obvious that Reggie only looks impressive when she's in with a crafty veteran that can figure out how to carry her, while at this point it wasn't even clear whether Mari was good enough for any of these veterans to carry her to a good match.

These two didn't have good chemistry and the match seemed kind of disjointed. Still, the execution was fine for the most part. They did the spots you'd expect, highlighted by Mari doing a no touch tope con hilo. I was surprised that Reggie pushed the mat as much as she did. If only Rie would have done the same instead of being a displaced AJW wrestler that sunk below mediocrity.

The problem with the match was that they weren't able to make the moves have any meaning. It wasn't a bad match, but it was quite mediocre. The basis was that Reggie took it to Mari, but Mari wouldn't give up, and she made a lot of comebacks. Mari's offense didn't seem all that credible against Reggie because it was pretty obvious that Reggie was letting her do most of the moves. In their defense, I realize sometimes it was supposed to be obvious. They went the full time, which was a big deal for Mari because Reggie's record was so exceptional. The result helped justify Mari's inclusion in ZION '98, but it wasn't enough to make anything think she had a chance of going anywhere in that tournament.
