THE THIRD STARLIGHT: Aja Kong & Mari Apache vs. Candy Okutsu & Reggie Bennett

The match was good when Aja was in with Candy. Mari did some flying, but her execution wasn't all that good. She really needed someone to lead her, but nobody was up to the task. The most notable spot played off Aja vs. Reggie from 5/5/98, with them teasing that Reggie would once again defeat Aja with her reverse full nelson. The finish saw Aja uraken Candy then Mari made the cover, but Candy bridged out. Aja the gave Candy her suichoku rakka shiki no brainbuster then Mari pretty much overshot Candy with her moonsault for the win. The finish gave Mari a big push, which she didn't deserve, but was necessary to warrant her inclusion in ZION '98. At the same time, it the loss didn't really hurt Candy because it was more Aja beating her and Mari just happening to score the actual pinfall. Jerome: Aja and Mari are a strange pairing. Mari really seemed to be there just to get the pin at the end. Candy and Aja together were very good, playing the size difference. Mari really took the match down, with poor work and sloppy highspots. She took an hour to set up her super quebrada, and seeing Reggie watching for her while she was trying to execute it didn't exactly help the whole sequence. The ending was rather weak, with Mari hitting a moonsault that didn't touch her opponent to get the pin. The loss didn't hurt Candy because it was really Aja's brainbuster that put her out, but Mari was pretty useless in the match and having her get the pin was lame.
