King of Pancrase Title Match: Guy Mezger (7th King of Pancrase) vs. Ryushi Yanagisawa (#3) |
|
This was the typically dull Mezger match, although it was duller because Mezger was so dominant. Yanagisawa really didn't have any business headlining this show because he's not really a draw and he never been anything special in the ring as far as I'm concerned. Mezger had Yanagisawa in the corner, and Yanagisawa tried to knee his way out, but Mezger caught him with a short right hand for a knockdown. Mezger went right back to muscling Yanagisawa into the corner and working from the inside. This negated Yanagisawa's reach advantage. Once again, Mezger countered a knee lift with a good right, but this one wasn't quite good enough to put Yanagisawa down. Yanagisawa got a cut on his forehead that bled steadily. The blood was rolling toward his hair when Mezger had him on the mat, so it wasn't hampering his performance in any way. As usual, the match went the distance. Mezger would have won the decision by a landslide because Yanagisawa really had no offense, but he didn't need the decision because he was ahead two points to none. Both men showed a ton of stamina and fought hard, but it wasn't all that interesting. 30:00 |
