Jushin Thunder Liger & Chris Jericho & Gran Naniwa & Dr. Wagner Jr. |
This match had 8 of the juniors that did not make the Best of the Super Jr. final, which took place later that night. As good as everyone in this match other than Hanzo is, the three New Japan workers really outclassed the rest of the pack. Everyone did great spots, but the NJ workers execution was perfect.
It started off hot with Liger and Otani, highlighted by Liger knocking Otani over the top to the floor with his palm strike. The heels double teamed Naniwa with sliding dropkicks, so the faces returned the favor to a good pop. Tajiri & Wagner did a good sequence, highlighted by Tajiri doing a Misterio rana, with Wagner rolling through for a near fall then hitting a Michinoku Driver II. Jericho & Otani worked an even better sequence, with Jericho getting a near fall from his Lionsault before Otani hit his swandive plancha to start a 5-dive sequence, which also included a great tope con hilo by Tajiri.
With bodies splattered on the floor from all the dives, Liger and Takaiwa kicked it into high gear in the ring as Takaiwa hit his superfast turning powerslam and Death Valley bomb. Jericho then saved Liger from the Takaiwa bomb (successive powerbombs), but Otani caught him with his swandive missile kick for his trouble. Otani ducked Liger's palm strike and with a super slick transition went right into a German suplex. Takaiwa tagged in and pushed Liger, hitting his Death Valley bomb and Takaiwa bomb. Liger came back with his Frankensteiner off the top, but Takaiwa rolled through for a near fall. Liger than hit a running palm strike for the win. Basically one great spot after another with very good crowd heat. Not surprisingly, it was the best when Liger was in the ring.
